Kassette Kulture 33# - Nox Factio - Live Series Vol 5 (C20)

Nox Factio are Andrés Ramirez & Elise Vandewalle, a duo who seem to favour the conceptual and mysterious by the looks of their sleek homesite, but this live document definitely plumbs more visceral pleasures.
A broody drone bone synth starts proceedings, the hue a weighty new wave cauterised in ribbony splashes. The odd scorching cleaver stopping everything from getting too generic as they chaffe against the souped up brew…
So far, it’s ticking my boxes completely… but when the sound’s fisted in some wildly distorted yelling, it’s taken to a whole new level. The vox is superb - bleeding a true Niagara. The cat looks on, more than a bit disturbed as I revel in the industrial bleakness of it all...
A satisfaction quickly hijacked by a corroded techno... the beats like Nizer Ebb, but way more steroid and edgy. The chasms, spanned by more demonic throat action... this is premium stuff, a real booted rave-a-thon that descends into some lovely Kristallnacht crunch. The vibe getting all rhythmic, bringing on Test Dept comparisons... which is never a bad thing…only for the intensity to die out on a ration of delayed vox vapour and rumbling deformity...
But this tape isn't bowing out just yet as dry beats kick on through the expected fade out, trashing around in muddy puddles... followed by whip kissed tinfoil and plenty more vocal thuggery... In a word, excellent!

Becketts Lust

...lots of shiny indie with some noisier inclinations on this 99 pence bargain dug up from the murky depths of Southampton last weekend, the cover shot being aptly pubic... here's a cool vid of the band floating around in the surf circa early 90's with a song that closes the album...

Wishy Wishy Flower - Beren and Joey Chainsaw

Apocalyptic dead fall drums, cinder fringed...an empty canteen fatigue in atomised guitar … a caustic wave cuts through this ambience, wreckage shivers beneath it's delicious acrimony... splitting hairs in oily colours as nailed tin bangs out a garbage coda on the shore…
The metal hits... it’s clanking gives me the This Heat twitches… but this is way more phosphorescent, chaotic... to be later choked in treble and rendered thoroughly alien… Stuttering phaser accompaniment, like bacterial cities laid waste on fizzing dentures…
This oversaturated spillage is miles removed from the hooded comedies of Sunn 0))) or any other hammer horror dirge, as the notion of something uninvited creeps out of the multilayered ampage... The spindle legged insect eye and acrylic smears of the artwork, just adding to the experience.

Infinite Light
wow... massive thanks to Ross Parfitt for getting this on video, that Infinite Light bloke was simply amazing at the Singing Knives all dayer last year. Incidentally when not maiming guitars, he runs a small tape operation up north called lotus birth that's well worth checking out... releasing many a ultra limited and lusciously packaged gem...
