Vertical Slum , Thought Forms and Mugstar

4th Feb - Louisiana, Bristol

Vertical Slum were like a psyched Oasis, bass and drums sucking at the air... half burying the lead's ballsy delivery... the threesome threw out loads of energy... hints of 60's excess in the sway...

Thought forms followed, screaming out an epic vibe, a clash of gnarly guitars beneath turbulent skies… drums insanely churning it up and throwing it straight through your skull in majestic spans... Purring abstractions shimmering between tracks like sly eyed serpents beckoning you in with a gauzed cross haze, the riffs around it building on scorched hues … Taut chimes origami(ed) outward ... growing intense, then exploding...

Mugstar did a great job in following them. A super saturated assault on the senses with a visual back wash of swirling b/w fragments and TV statics, incredible stuff akin to Oneida's insistent ruttings. Plying an infectious kraut vibe, but with the breathing spaces removed... machine gun drums peppering your body whilst you struggled for an endlessly retracting horizon... vocal yells sucked in... guitars dicing them up into mirrored wounds... spacey effects aerosoling the serrated innards. Those secondary and tertiary layers bending out of shape in the sunburnt growl, the eyes of Jesus fading inside out behind them... I'll definitely be checking these boys out again...
