Die Schacht – Halber Selbstbetrug

An off-shoot from the mighty Hiroshima Bird Market collective, Die Schacht are a mysterious entity that I'm wild guessing, are a duo, based on the Baader Meinhof gun touting twosome on their webpage... but question marks aside, this totally hits sound-wise...

The first side is a solid chunk of head shrieking metronomics... smothered in bassy transits and overwrought in thirsty shards (or should that be barbs) of pylon guitar. A rhythmically sharp and feisty beast, with that transistorised megaphone of vox hooking you into to some uber addictive rockstar mimicry...

The flip side changes dynamics completely, strips it all back in to a Casio whine over bone china beats, a vibe that has that childlike stare of early Pram or Smog… A real nice post-punk experimental slant to it... contrasting ultimately with the punk(ish) 'A' side ... intimately lit and full of quirky angles ending on a screamed abruptness…

A great slice of life from the Berlin underground with a gas-masked trench lady cover that's hard to forget…
